Recognizing Predatory Behavior in a Spiritual Community

Updated: Feb 6

Sometimes it's hard to see predatory behavior - but if your eyes are wide open it's usually noticeable.

Here are some signs that may indicate predatory behavior:

  • Manipulation: Predators in spiritual communities often manipulate others by taking advantage of their vulnerabilities, emotions, or beliefs.

  • Power imbalance: They may exploit their position of authority or influence within the community to control or coerce others. Notice the vibration of superiority... is your worth on the table? Are you equals or just trying to belong?

  • Boundary violations: Predators may disregard personal boundaries, such as invading personal space, touching inappropriately, or pressuring others into uncomfortable situations.

  • Emotional abuse: This includes gaslighting, belittling, or consistently undermining someone's self-worth.

  • Sexual misconduct: Engaging in non-consensual or abusive sexual activities, or using spiritual beliefs to justify such behavior. Taking advantage of someone's vulnerabily for selfish gain can keep people in trauma loops.

  • Financial exploitation: Taking advantage of others financially, pressuring them into monetary contributions, or misusing funds for personal gain. This can happen a lot! Just notice if your relationship exists beyond you paying for it. You will see true colors from a predator when they have nothing to gain from you ~ So just your beingness is not enough.

  • Isolation tactics: Predatory individuals may isolate their targets from friends, family, or other support systems to maintain control over them.

  • Secretive behavior: They may engage in secretive or hidden actions that go against the values or principles of the spiritual community.

  • Lack of accountability: Predators often avoid taking responsibility for their actions and may manipulate or deflect blame onto others. *Watch for big victim stories without any hint of accountability.

  • Gossip & dehumanizing: which are different than boundaries and awareness of character. Notice gossiping that dehumanizes people. Boundaries may create healthy space, but dehumanizing is condemning a soul and wanting everyone else to condem them as well.

If you suspect any predatory behavior within a spiritual community, it's essential to report it to the appropriate authorities or individuals who can address the situation.

If you find yourself entertaining these sorts of relationships ... there are powerful ways to start an inner revolution as well as a shift in choices that affect your life.
